Comparison
Cotton vs nylon rope.
The two most-bought beginner ropes in the UK. Cotton is softer, more skin-friendly, washable, and forgives the learning curve. Nylon is glossier, slicker, holds knots less securely but works better for decorative ties where a smooth slide is the point. Neither is wrong; they answer different questions.

The verdict
Cotton first. Softer on skin, less likely to slip, more forgiving of bad knots, and machine-washable. Nylon is the upgrade for decorative ties and for buyers who specifically want the glossier aesthetic and faster slide. Both are 6-8 mm standard; both come in 7-10 m lengths for single ties.
