Typical figures for built-in lithium-ion batteries:
- Bullet vibrators: 45–90 minutes on full power; 120–180 minutes on lower settings.
- Wand massagers (rechargeable): 60–120 minutes on full power. Mains-powered wands (Doxy 3 corded) run indefinitely.

Lithium-ion batteries have a finite number of charge cycles — typically 300–500 full cycles before noticeable capacity loss. A "cycle" is a full discharge from 100% to 0% and back; partial discharges count fractionally.
In practical years:
- Budget toys (£15–£40): 1–3 years before battery noticeably weaker.
- Mid-tier (£50–£100): 3–5 years.
- Premium (£100+): 5–10 years with conservative use and good charge habits.
The other ageing factor is calendar age — even unused, lithium-ion batteries lose 2–5% capacity per year. A toy bought five years ago has lost roughly 15% even if barely used.
How to maximise battery life
- Don't leave on charge permanently. Unplug at 100%.
- Don't run to 0%. Recharge at 20-30% remaining.
- Store at 50% if unused for over a month.
- Don't charge in extreme temperatures. 15-25°C is ideal.
- Use the manufacturer's cable. Generic cables can deliver slightly off-spec voltage.
- Keep the charge port dry. Wipe before charging.
Signs the battery is failing
- Run time noticeably shorter than when new.
- Charge time significantly longer.
- Toy shuts off unexpectedly mid-session.
- Toy won't reach a "fully charged" indicator state.
Once you see these signs, plan replacement within 6–12 months for any toy used regularly.
