UK online adult retailers are more discreet than buying in person. The full discretion stack covers packaging, billing, email, and delivery.
The discretion checklist
For maximum anonymity:
1. Pick a retailer with full discretion match
The full-discretion combination:
- Plain unmarked outer packaging.
- Neutral sender label (not the retailer name).
- Matching neutral bank-statement descriptor.
- Discreet email confirmations.
BondageBox uses "BBox" as both sender label and statement descriptor. Lovehoney uses "LH Trading" on packaging and "Lovehoney" on statement (less discreet on the statement). Bondara identifies itself on both. Ann Summers identifies itself.
2. Pay with card directly, not PayPal
PayPal typically shows the merchant name on the buyer's PayPal account record AND on the bank statement. Card payment shows only the merchant's chosen descriptor (e.g. "BBox").
3. Use a private email address
Sign up with an email account separate from shared family or work email:
- A free Gmail / ProtonMail / Tutanota account exclusively for adult-retail purchases.
- Or a "+adult" suffix on your existing email (Gmail: [email protected] still delivers to [email protected] but tags the source, useful for unsubscribing later too).
4. Delivery to a private address
For maximum discretion:
- Your own address, signed-for delivery, most secure; the package doesn't sit on a doorstep.
- Click and collect at a parcel locker, DPD, Evri, Royal Mail all offer this; pickup avoids in-home delivery.
- Workplace delivery, most workplaces don't flag mail; only if you're comfortable with this.
5. Browsing privacy
- Private browsing for the purchase, keeps the visit out of browser history.
- VPN if you're concerned about ISP logging, overkill for most buyers but available.
- Don't link to social media accounts when prompted.
UK retailers compared by discretion
| Retailer | Packaging | Sender | Statement | Full match |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BondageBox | Plain unmarked | BBox | BBox | Yes |
| Lovehoney | Plain unmarked | LH Trading | Lovehoney | Partial |
| Bondara | Plain unmarked | Bondara | Bondara | No |
| Ann Summers | Optional plain | Ann Summers | Ann Summers | No |
What anonymity doesn't cover
- Your bank does know. Cards record merchant ID and amount; bank statements show the descriptor. Anonymity from your bank isn't possible with card payment.
- The retailer knows. They have your name, address, email, and order history.
- HMRC sees aggregated retailer revenue but not your individual purchases.
"Anonymous" in UK adult retail means "not visible to anyone in your household, workplace, or social circle". Banks, retailers, and tax authorities have records.
For specific high-discretion situations
Some buyers, public figures, journalists, sensitive professions, need higher anonymity. Options:
- Cash + click-and-collect at a delivery locker.
- Prepaid card (loaded with cash at a post office) for the purchase.
- Delivery to a PO Box (cheap from Royal Mail) under a different name.
These steps are overkill for almost all buyers but available.
