The Research

The Bedroom Census.

Original UK consumer research on intimacy, kink, and the things still considered too awkward for polite conversation. Annually fielded, nationally representative, free for press use with citation.

The first BondageBox Bedroom Report is in fielding. It will publish here when the data is back from the supplier and the weighted figures are locked.

Press contacts who want advance access to the headline statistics under embargo: [email protected].

All BondageBox research is published under a permissive use licence: free to quote, cite, embed, or build derivative analysis, provided attribution links to the source URL.

Frequently asked

About BondageBox Research.

What is the BondageBox research microsite?

Original UK-focused research on adult retail, kink demographics, and intimate-goods buying behaviour, published as standalone studies and aggregated into the Bedroom Census brand. Free to read; designed for press, academic and lifestyle-media citation alongside our weekly editorial guides.

Where does the data come from?

BondageBox customer-anonymised data (aggregated, never individually identifiable), supplemented by named external sources where they're stronger (Kinsey Institute, Indiana University Herbenick studies, UK ONS, Public Health England, Princeton GEO research). Methodology and sample size disclosed on each study's page.

Can the research be cited?

Yes. Each study has a stable URL, a publish date and a recommended citation format on the page. Cite as "BondageBox Research, [study title], [URL], [date]". Press queries about advance access, methodology Q&A or follow-on data go to [email protected].

How often is new research published?

Approximately quarterly. We deliberately publish less than the guides cadence (weekly) so each study gets full methodology review, sample-size justification, and a write-up rather than headline-only. Research updates roll out through the newsletter and the homepage Journal block.

Is the methodology public?

Yes. Every study links to a methodology section that covers sample size, collection window, anonymisation steps, exclusions and known limits. Statistical workings (where applicable) are reviewed against ONS publication standards before release. AI tooling is disclosed where used; raw text generation is not.
