Sex Essentials UK, the supporting cast.

Britain's considered shelf of lubes, condoms, toy cleaners, hen-night kits and games. Useful, well-chosen, and never an afterthought.

Sex essentials in the UK are the supporting items that make every other purchase work: body-safe lubricant (water-based for universal compatibility, silicone for longevity), correctly-sized condoms (ISO 4074 standard width 54 mm; snug 49–52 mm; large 56–60 mm), toy cleaner (NOT soap, since soap residue irritates), and accessories from massage oil to couples\' games. UK condoms have been zero-rated for VAT since 1 January 2021 alongside other essential health items. BondageBox stocks 200+ essentials with free discreet UK delivery from £30, plain unmarked packaging, and "BBox Ltd" on the bank statement.

The house view

Essentials are the things that make everything else work better: quality water-based lubricant, condoms in sizes that actually fit (the ISO 4074 "regular" 54 mm width doesn't suit everyone), dice and card games that break the ice without being naff. Our buyers test every lube on at least three skin types before stocking it.

This is also where the gifts and stag/hen items live. Discreet plain packaging applies as everywhere else; orders over £30 ship free across the UK.

How to choose

  • Water-based lube is the universal choice; pairs with every toy material and every condom type. Look for paraben-free and glycerin-free formulations.
  • Silicone lube lasts longest and is bath-friendly, but never use with silicone toys (it bonds and degrades the surface).
  • Condoms come in width before length. The ISO 4074 "regular" is 54 mm; "snug" is 49-52 mm; "large" is 56-60 mm. The NHS recommends measuring with a string when erect (in mm) and dividing by 2 to find your condom width.
  • Games and novelties make better gifts than premium toys for newcomers; lower commitment, higher hit rate.

Three things UK essentials retailers don't tell you

1.

Oil-based lubes destroy latex condoms within minutes. Coconut oil, mineral oil, baby oil are all condom-incompatible per NHS guidance. The "natural is better" instinct is wrong here; water-based is the universal safe answer.

2.

"Natural" lube can disrupt vaginal pH. Glycerin-based lubes ferment into sugars that feed yeast, and "natural fragrance" often masks pH-disruptive ingredients. pH-balanced (Sliquid H2O, YES OB) beats "all natural" for anyone prone to thrush or BV.

3.

Toy cleaner ≠ regular soap. Soap leaves a residue that irritates mucosal tissue and degrades silicone over time. A £4 dedicated toy cleaner pays for itself in not-having-to-replace silicone toys early. Hot water + cleaner is sufficient between uses; full sterilisation is for between partners only.

Frequently asked

Answers, plainly.

What is the best lube to use in 2026?

Water-based, paraben-free, glycerin-free lubes are the universal recommendation: Sliquid H2O, ID Glide and Pjur Aqua are stocked in the UK from £8-£15. Silicone lube (Pjur Original, Wicked Sensual Care Silicone) lasts longer and is bath-friendly but cannot be used with silicone toys. Oil-based lube (coconut, dedicated brands like YES OB) is condom-incompatible; the oil degrades latex within minutes per NHS guidance.

How do I find my condom size in the UK?

Measure your erect penis girth in millimetres with a piece of string at the thickest point, then divide by 2 to find the condom width. ISO 4074 "regular" condoms are 54 mm; "snug" is 49-52 mm; "large" is 56-60 mm. Mismatched sizes are the leading cause of breakage and slippage. BondageBox stocks Skins, Mates, Pasante and Durex in all three width bands.

Which lube is safe with sex toys?

Water-based lube is safe with every sex-toy material and every condom type. Hybrid water-silicone is also fine. Pure silicone lube is fine on glass, ABS plastic, and stainless steel, but never on silicone toys (it bonds with and degrades the toy surface within weeks). Oil-based lubes (coconut, mineral, baby oil) destroy latex condoms and many porous toys; avoid except with non-porous, non-latex equipment.

Are sex games for couples worth buying?

For newcomers, yes. UK relationship counselling charities (Relate, COSRT) often recommend low-pressure couples' games as a way to discuss intimacy without confrontation. BondageBox stocks card games (Monogamy, Lust, Bedroom Commands) and dice games from £8 to £20. They make better gifts than premium toys for couples just starting to expand their dynamic; lower commitment, higher hit rate.

What's in a good hen night kit?

A typical UK hen-night kit includes themed straws, novelty cake toppers, a card game, and dares, typically £15-£40 total. BondageBox's hen and stag section stocks plain-packaged kits curated by our buyers; everything ships in unmarked outer packaging so the host can decant without revealing the surprise. Orders for events should be placed at least 5 working days before the night to allow tracked-delivery slack.

Are condoms tax-free in the UK?

Yes. Since 1 January 2021 condoms in the UK have been zero-rated for VAT, alongside other "essential" health items. BondageBox prices are inclusive of all applicable VAT (and clearly note this on the cart). Bulk packs (12, 24, 60) typically work out 30-40% cheaper per condom than 3-packs.
