Comparison
Butt plug vs anal beads.
The two most-bought anal toy categories in the UK, doing genuinely different jobs. A plug stays in place and gives sustained fullness; beads insert and remove one at a time, with the removal being the sensation most buyers actually buy them for. Most experienced collectors own at least one of each.
| Spec | Butt Plug | Anal Beads |
|---|---|---|
| Primary sensation | Sustained fullness | Bead-by-bead, peak on removal |
| Worn for | 15-60 min in a session | Inserted, removed within minutes |
| Beginner-friendly size | 0.8 inch diameter, <3.5 inch length | Smallest bead <0.7 inch |
| Lube need | Generous, water-based for silicone | Generous; beads need glide bead-by-bead |
| Flared base / retention | Mandatory flared base | Mandatory retrieval ring wider than largest bead |
| Solo vs partnered | Both, often worn while solo | More often partnered; removed at orgasm |
| Material to buy | Platinum-cure silicone | Platinum silicone or borosilicate glass |
| UK entry price | ~£8-25 (single basic plug) | ~£12-30 (silicone bead set) |
| Premium tier | £40-£100 (Lelo, Tantus, b-Vibe) | £60-£140 (glass, steel, weighted) |
The verdict
Buy a small silicone plug first. It is the lowest-friction entry to the category, easy to wear, easy to remove, and forgiving on the lube budget. Add beads as a second purchase once you know what kind of sensation you want; the bead-by-bead removal is a distinct experience worth having, but rarely the right first piece.
