UK consumer law protects you regardless of manufacturer warranty. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 sets statutory minimums that apply to every retail purchase.
UK statutory rights
For all goods sold in the UK, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires that products are:
- Of satisfactory quality.
- Fit for purpose.
- As described.
If a product fails any of these criteria within a reasonable time, the buyer has rights to:
- Within 30 days: Full refund.
- Within 6 months: Repair, replacement, or refund (the burden of proof is on the seller to show the product wasn't faulty when sold).
- Within 6 years (England/Wales) or 5 years (Scotland): Right to claim against the seller for goods that didn't last a reasonable time, though the buyer must prove the fault was present at sale.

Typically:
- Manufacturing defects (e.g. motor failure, charging port failure).

- Wear from normal use.
- Damage from improper use (incorrect lube, dropping, etc.).
- Loss of waterproofing from being submerged beyond rated depth.
- Battery degradation over time (lithium-ion ages naturally).

Returns vs warranty
UK distance-selling regulations give 14-day returns for unused items. Sex toys have an exemption for hygiene reasons, once a sealed package is opened, distance-selling returns don't apply.
