Fleshlight maintenance is the difference between a sleeve that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 5 months. The protocol takes 3-5 minutes per session and significantly extends product life.
Immediate post-use cleaning
After every session:
- Remove the sleeve from the outer case.
- Rinse the sleeve with warm water — lukewarm (35-40°C); not hot. Hot water damages SuperSkin material.
- Flush water through the sleeve — fill from one end; squeeze and rotate to circulate water through the textured chamber; pour out.
- Use Fleshwash or a fragrance-free toy cleaner if needed. Avoid scented soaps (residue).
- Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear.
- Pat dry on a clean towel.
- Air-dry on the included drying stand or hung upside-down — sleeve chamber pointing down so water drains. Don't pat-dry the inside; the channel is too narrow.
Total: 3 minutes.
Deep clean (weekly or after longer sessions)
Periodic deeper cleaning prevents bacterial buildup:
- Pre-rinse with warm water.
- Use Fleshwash or fragrance-free toy cleaner — apply to the sleeve; work through the chamber; let sit for 60 seconds.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Air-dry completely — typically 4-6 hours minimum; overnight ideally.
The cornstarch step (every 3-4 uses)
SuperSkin material develops a slightly tacky feel over time as the surface degrades. Cornstarch dusting restores the soft, slightly-tacky-but-smooth feel of new SuperSkin:
- Wait until the sleeve is fully dry — moisture + powder produces clumps.
- Dust the sleeve lightly with cornstarch — fingertip amount; not a lot.
- Work it gently into the surface with clean fingers.
- Wipe off any excess before storage.
Use cornstarch, not talc. Talc is contraindicated for body-contact products under EU/UK regulation post-2024 due to broader health concerns.
Skip cornstarch and the sleeve develops a noticeably plasticky feel within weeks.
What destroys Fleshlights
- Hot water — anything above 40°C damages SuperSkin.
- Silicone-based lubricant — won't destroy the sleeve overnight but dulls the texture over months. Use water-based lube only.
- Oil-based lubricant — destroys SuperSkin permanently.
- Soap with fragrance or moisturisers — residue lingers; promotes degradation.
- Talc — health-restricted; contraindicated for body-contact products.
- Storing wet — promotes mould and bacterial growth.
- Storing with cap fully closed — traps residual moisture; accelerates degradation.
- Sun exposure — light-sensitive; fades and ages SuperSkin.
- Hot car boots — temperature swings damage the material.
Storage
- Back in the hard outer case after drying completely.
- Cap loose, not fully tightened — allows residual moisture to evaporate.
- Cool, dark, dry location — bedside drawer is fine.
- Away from silicone toys — materials can interact under prolonged contact.
Common cleaning mistakes
- Rinsing with hot water — damages SuperSkin.
- Using shower gel or scented soap — residue lingers.
- Skipping the dry step — moisture promotes mould.
- Skipping cornstarch — sleeve becomes plasticky.
- Using a dish brush or scrubber — damages the textured chamber surface.
- Closing the case while sleeve is damp — traps moisture; mould risk.
Sterilising — what's possible and what isn't
SuperSkin is porous at the microscopic level — bacterial and viral material can lodge in micro-pores. Unlike platinum-cure silicone, Fleshlights cannot be fully sterilised:
- Cannot be boiled — destroys the material.
- Cannot be put in the dishwasher — damaged by heat and detergent.
- 70% IPA wipe-down is the closest to sterilisation; works on the surface but doesn't reach embedded contamination.
This means:
- Don't share Fleshlights between partners. The material can't be made body-safe between users.
- Replace the sleeve if you change long-term partners — particularly if STI status has changed.
- Don't use anally and then orally — the same applies to all porous materials.
When to replace
Signs your Fleshlight is reaching end-of-life:
- Persistent stickiness that cornstarch doesn't fix.
- Loss of texture — the internal chamber feels flatter than original.
- Discolouration — particularly yellowing of the SuperSkin.
- Damaged or torn material.
- Persistent smell that doesn't resolve with deep cleaning.
Properly maintained Fleshlights last 3-5 years of regular use. Badly maintained: 6-12 months. The maintenance is the difference.
