Lubricants and Oils at BondageBox, a curated section of the UK catalogue. Water, silicone, hybrid and oil-based lube. NHS-compatible pairings.
Sex lubricants reduce friction and improve comfort during intimate use. UK retail covers three formulation families: water-based (washable, condom-safe, toy-safe with silicone toys), silicone-based (long-lasting, water-resistant, NOT compatible with silicone toys), and hybrid water/silicone (mid-duration, versatile). For UK sexual health education, the Brook charity recommends water-based as the safest universal choice; the NHS recommends checking pH balance (around 4.5 for vaginal use, 7-8 for anal).
Three buying criteria that matter: glycerin-free for users prone to yeast infections (glycerin is a sugar and can feed candida), paraben-free for sensitive users (parabens are EU-regulated under the Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009), and osmolality-safe for anal use (the WHO recommends lubricants with osmolality under 1,200 mOsm/kg for rectal use). Premium UK and EU brands publish osmolality figures; cheaper lubes typically don't.
For toy use: water-based with silicone toys (silicone-based lube degrades silicone over time, leaving a sticky tackiness); silicone-based for stainless steel, glass and ceramic toys (longer-lasting); always read the toy manufacturer's lube guidance. See beginner's lubricant guide and best lube for silicone toys.
For anal use, the NHS specifically recommends thicker silicone-based or anal-formulated water-based lubes; see anal training. Our range covers Sliquid (US, fully glycerin-free), Pjur (German, silicone-based), and Yes (UK, organic water-based). Plain unmarked UK packaging; "BBox Ltd" descriptor; free UK delivery over £30. Chemistry that matters. Water-based lubricants (Sliquid H2O, Pjur Aqua, Sutil) pair safely with every condom material, every toy material, every body part, and rinse clean with water alone. They reapply often (the trade-off for safety), so a 250ml bottle is the right size for regular users. Silicone-based lubricants (Pjur Original, Sliquid Silver, Uberlube) last far longer per application and don't reapply; they're the right choice for shower use, anal play, and long sessions. They are not compatible with silicone toys, the silicone-in-lube fuses with the silicone surface over months and degrades the toy. Hybrid lubricants (water with 10-20% silicone) balance both; they're a sensible everyday default if you don't want to think about it.
Special-purpose blends. Anal-specific lubricants (Sliquid Sassy, Pjur Back Door) are thicker than standard water-based, designed to stay in place rather than absorb quickly. Flavoured lubricants (System Jo, Bijoux Indiscrets) are formulated sugar-free and pH-balanced for use during oral sex; the bare-minimum check is "no sugar in the ingredients" to avoid encouraging thrush. Massage oils (Shunga, Kama Sutra) are not body-cavity-safe and aren't designed to function as lubricants, they're for full-body massage only. Read the back label, not the front.
Buying smart. 100ml bottles are travel-friendly and fit hand luggage; 250ml is the everyday-use size; 500ml+ is value-tier for high-use households. Pump-top bottles (rather than flip-cap) work better one-handed during sex. For the in-depth pairing rules see /tools/lube-compatibility.
Where to read next. The full pairing rules are at /tools/lube-compatibility. For specialist anal lubricants see anal lubricants. For oral-sex-safe flavoured options see flavoured lubricants. The best UK lube pillar guide ranks the editor's current picks across all chemistry types. For massage rather than lubrication see bath and massage.
Most UK regular users land on a hybrid lubricant for everyday use and a separate silicone bottle for shower and anal play, total spend around 25 GBP a year.
