Toy cleaner basics: warm water and fragrance-free antibacterial soap is sufficient for most body-safe toys (platinum silicone, glass, steel). Anal douche use: plain warm tap water only (no soap, no scented additives, these damage the rectal mucous lining). Toy cleaners, briefly. Dedicated toy cleaners (Sliquid Shine, Pjur Med Clean, Anjou Toy Cleaner) are formulated pH-balanced for body-contact surfaces and rinse clean without residue. They're a convenience product rather than a strict necessity, warm soapy water (a mild fragrance-free hand soap) does the same job on most silicone, glass, steel, and ABS toys. The case where a dedicated cleaner earns its place is on motorised toys that can't be fully submerged: a quick wipe-down with toy cleaner cleans the contact surfaces without flooding the electronics.

Pre- and post-play essentials. Wet-wipes designed for intimate use (fragrance-free, pH-balanced) cover quick clean-ups between rounds and post-session. Standard wet-wipes with fragrance are a thrush trigger for many users and should be avoided. Body-safe wash gels (Sliquid Splash, Femfresh) suit external use only; the vagina is self-cleaning and douching is actively discouraged by NHS guidance, internal washes disrupt the microbiome rather than improving it. For anal play, mild douching with a bulb syringe and lukewarm tap water is a reasonable pre-session routine when desired; over-douching dries the rectum and increases tear risk.

Storage hygiene. Store toys clean, dry, and separated; pile-storage causes material reactions over months (especially silicone-on-silicone). Cotton storage bags (often supplied with premium toys) breathe better than plastic and reduce mildew risk. A clean drawer with a folded towel works as well as any specialist storage.
